As we approach Independence Day this year, it seems that we have a wide range of distractions that may cause us to drop our guard against an enemy who never tires of trying to cause us harm. From the devastation of weather and fire, to the banter of politics, and just the normal effort required to enjoy the American life, I do not see a public emphasis on national security leading up to our uniquely America celebration. While I must trust that our government is doing everything in its power to detect and prevent incident, we each must do our part and be aware of warning signs around us. Enjoy the 4th, but don’t forget what it took to get US here, or why we are in this profession.
“Eternal vigilance is the price of freedom.” — Andrew Jackson, 1873
